THE SETTLE AGE

This is a post explaining the "settle age", the age people go mad and just settle which I don’t understand. This is how it goes it seems that some ladies and gentlemen have a "settle age" where they drop the standards that they have had when looking for the "right person". This is to all those couple where the female or male are way out of their partner’s league. I’m not saying every couple like that because some of them are in love, but some couples have just settled (hello increase in divorce rate). You know the ones when you’re walking around the mall and u see a "buff buff buff chick" and she with a fool, seriously u know in your head either that dude rich or she scared of being lonely (ladies obviously the other way round for ya’ll, unless u swing the other other way and that’s fine).

Reasons behind this include a fear of becoming "the cat lady/man" you know that old person who lives in your street with seventy cats and no kids. The fear of being lonely I think is the deepest reason for this, even strong confident people have this insecurity I guess it depends how much u let it eat at you. I think also some pretty folk have "trust" issues and don’t date other pretty folk because they feel that they will cheat on them, so they lower standards as they are damn sure that person is going to be grateful for what they have.

this "settle age" ranges between 25 - 33 and if you make it past this age u are hopeful "the one" will find you, so u better believe u are right because why settle when it’s all gonna come find you. "Settle age" folk usually vary some stick it out, some learn to actually fall in love and some break up. But hey I guess this is life and we live and learn....

R.I.P LIL LADY!!! LAYLA GRACE PASSED AWAY TODAY HERE'S HER STORY;

TOP 10 MC's

MTV did a list of the top ten greatest mc's of all time and I ain’t feelin it. Click the link below to view it;

http://www.mtv.com/bands/h/hip_hop_week/2006/emcees/index7.jhtml

Imma beak it down I ain’t feelin this list because "Jigga man" is number one, are u kidding me. Jigga man number one, ok I am not hating because I agree jay is a good rapper but seriously number one. This list has made me vex that’s why I’m posting a real list and jigga ain’t number. Actually I don’t think I’m going to even add the freemason to my list, allow him.

Now let’s kick this list off;

10. LL Cool J - I think LL is too cool! the guy has some awesome tracks and like he said "something like a Phenomena

9. Ice Cube and Ice T - Sorry I cant separate these two rappers turned actors - i wish they would have dropped some more albums but you can’t deny there two of raps heavy hitters

8. Mos Def - the dude is ill the man can freestyle anything - he freestyle like mad

7. K R S one - "whoop whoop that’s the sound of da police whoop whoop that’s the sound of the beast" - need I say more

6. Big Daddy Kane - One of the biggest rappers from "the golden age" of rap

5. Eminem - I didn’t like em when he came on the scene but imma have to give him props he has been one of the most influential rappers after the Pac and Biggie era

4. Rakim - the guy has been round since the 80's and he is still doing it and has been a highly influential rapper in the industry

3. Nas - was spectacular, his lyrics are amazing and his flow is untouchable

2. Biggie Smalls - his lyrics were tight, no one could compete with his lyrical ability.

Napolean talks his life and islam!!!

This is napolean from the outlaws (Tu Pac's Group) the man is a brilliant motivational speaker

NICKI MINAJ

I know people got issues with female mc's, but u need to realise they have always been there from the start and there still here. Instead of ignoring these women or classing them as females who are "ho's" and got no self respect we need to celebrate their talents. Let me be real some of these females got ill'er flows than the males shit damn motherfucker (yeah I said that), if Soulja Boy can make it as a rapper (please) so can these women.

Let’s go back and have a shout out to some of my favourite females mc's - roll call time; MC Lyte, Salt & Peppa, Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Yo-Yo, Sparky D, Roxanne Shante, The Real Roxanne, Antoinette, Sweet Tee, BWP, Bo$$, HWA, Foxy, Kim, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, Trina, Jean Grae, Da Brat, Lauryn Hill, Eve, Remy Martin, Finesse & Synquis, Sole, Mia X, Lady Of Rage, Bahamadia, Queen Pen, Lady Bug Mecca, Isis a.k.a. Lin Que, Ms Dynamite, Babs, Ms. Melodie, Amil, Gangsta Boo, JJ Fad, Charlie Baltimore, Ms Jade, Rah Digga, Nikki D, Sista Souljah, Nonchalant, Shawnna, Leschea, Heather B and much more and our most recent lady of the moment is young money's own Nicki Minaj!!!! Before I start let me say she 25% or so Indian and you know I’m “reppin” Asian acts that make it!!!!

Nicki Minaj is one bad ass female rapper, she isn’t any Lauryn Hill or Foxy Brown yet but gives this chick a chance and she will be big. No one can argue that she is the ill’est female mc who is doing it right now, if Lauryn hill, Foxy, or Remy Ma come out with some new music she might have trouble but for the second no one can touch this chick. The lady is also rapping with young money records who are releasing some hectic hip hop acts at the moment. She also features on the tune with all the male rappers - I can make your bedrock:

Nicki has for while been collaborating for a while now but 2010 is the year this female goes solo so let’s what this lady is going bring to the table!!!

R.I.P AALIYAH

Aaliyah Dana Haughton-16/01/1979 - 25/08/01

Where do i start?

Aaliyah was an artist who I grew up with she was cool when she came on the scene and my peer group related to her cause she wasn’t much older than us. She was an amazing talent that was taken away from us when she was about to take over the music scene.

I was a fan since her second album "one in a million" as I was way to young when her first album, which she released at the age of 14, "age ain't nothing but a number" was released. Her first album was mentored by R. Kelly but her second album was mentored by producing greats Timberland and Missy Elliot. The first album had some amazing tracks which included "age ain't nothing but and number", "back and forth" and "at your best, you are love". These are all tracks which I still play now she was the r'n'b jam princess after the queen Mary J Blige. Each track was amazing and for a fourteen year old this young girl sang songs which were grown and was competing with grown female r'n'b artists.

The second album was amazing and it had crazy beats which were to be expected from Missy and Timberland. Aaliyah had a soulful voice and I will admit I was under her spell as was the rest of the r'n'b world. She had me and from the second album she released hit tracks "hot like fire", "4 page letter", "one in a million" and one of my favourite tracks "if your girl only knew" (I actually own this single on cassette, it was a b side with "one in a million"). I was in love with Aaliyah by this time and her music was regularly "bumping" on my stereo.

Then Aaliyah started a mainstream acting career and was a the leading female of a blockbuster which was "Romeo Must Die". I own a copy of this film and I have seen it so many times I think I know all the lines. With this film there was also a soundtrack which I also own and Aaliyah sang a few of the songs on this album. My favourite song is "are you feelin me", which plays in the club when her and Jet Li are dancing, just before DMX dies in the film. This film proved to the world that Aaliyah was more than a singer she was also an amazing actress, after this film she also played a vampire in "Queen of the Damned". I also own this film and I though Aaliyah looked amazing as a vampire and would not minded if she had bit me.

Then on August 25, 2001, at 6:45 pm Aaliyah passed away in a plane crash, where her plane was overweight and her pilot had a fake certificate as well as traces of drugs in his body. Aaliyah died on the scene and on that day the music world lost a big bright star. I remember when this happened and I remember posting a message of how much I loved her and what a loss she would be to the industry on a memorial website. I watched her funeral on TV and was moved by the 22 doves which were released to represent each year in her life. The funeral was aired on TV and hundreds of fans had lined the streets to pay tribute to a star.

Aaliyah also had two more album one called "Aaliyah" and the other called "I Care for You". Both these albums showed what we had lost and how Aaliyah had grown as a musician. There were some massive hits on these albums including "more than a woman", "rock the boat", "miss you" and "I care for you". Aaliyah also had lots of work lined up including more acting work which the world will never get to see. This is my personal tribute to a Legend and my favourite r'n'b princess

AALIYAH - REST IN PEACE, WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU...

ARTISTS TO WATCH OUT FOR 2010

Ok the world has had some talented girls coming from the UK, Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Estelle and now it’s time for OBENEWA, she is a soul/ r'n'b singer who has a bad voice. I saw this girl, her sister and Kadija Kamara perform when I went to an Anthony Hamilton concert. All three of the girls were amazing they had brilliant voices and from them girls Obenewa has released a mix tape which I have heard songs from and she is definitely a British talent to watch out for. Her voice is soulful and her lyrics will capture a wide audience, I believe that she could be this year’s new voice from England. This girl hasn’t gone onto any TV show, she has played at clubs and concerts to get herself heard and I’m sure she’s a hard working girl so I’m going to "BIG HER UP". I’m hoping she’s going to be the new British female superstar. She will be big in 2010 and if you haven’t heard her u best go Google OBENEWA MUSIC.

OBENWA FEAT BASHY - SAY I WANT YOU

Another artist who I have currently blowing up my I Pod is J Cole, who is an American rapper. This dude has some hectic lyrics and is definitely going to blow up the UK in 2010 if he starts releasing tracks over here. I have heard various tracks from his "warm up" mix tape. This dude made me fall in love with Hip Hop again because I heard that track which spoke to me on his album.
The track is called The Badness;

I know you’re thinking this dude is proper "Bigging up" this new rapper, but I must say he deserves all the credit this dude gets. I’m shocked he hasn’t made it mainstream already because this dude is that good. Like rappers nowadays he doesn’t rely on hectic beats this dude just flows and he keeps on going, aint one track on the "warm up" mix tape that is just okay all the tunes are hectic. So J Cole, I’m expecting big things I can feel 2010 being your year, about time a real rapper made it.

ARTIST OF THE MONTH

I have decided to have an "artist of the month" one artist every month who I want to "BIG UP" to the world. They don’t have to be current the artist can be from the old school or one who is fresh to death and new. If you have any ideas of artists who you feel I should "BIG UP" next month please post a comment!

Ok my first artist on this blog is going to be "JAY SEAN", first of all yes I am "BIGGNG HIM UP" because he is a British Asian artist who had made it mainstream. Jay Sean has had a brilliant year and he is definitely gonna be on the scene for a while.

Kamaljeet Singh Jhooti aka Jay Sean is of Punjabi origins and is one of the only British Asian male artists to top the American charts. His success hopefully has opened up the gates for other young talented British Asian Acts to make their mark on the urban music industry. I remember Jay back when he was a member of the Rishi Rich Project, and this was blowing up with young British Asian youths. Rishi, Juggy D and Jay were releasing tracks together and I am going to admit I bought their stuff man because it was bad. Jay became the biggest act on the mainstream to come from that surge of British Asian music. Maybe it was cause he sang R'n'B he appealed to the mainstream and got signed.

After that there seemed to be no stopping Jay Sean, first he released his album "Me Against Myself" and gave us hits like "eyes on you" and "stolen", both of which did well in the UK charts. Then he seemed to disappear from the scene with most of the other acts, who British Asians were hoping would do really well. He later returned in 2008 with his second album "My Own Way" which he released on his own record label and this produce hits like "Ride It" (one of my favourite Jay Sean tracks)and "Maybe".

After this I was shocked when I heard Jay Sean’s "DOWN" as it had the freshest rapper from the USA rapping on it. Then I discovered Jay had been signed to Cash Money records and the track with Lil Wayne (lil weezy baby) was his latest track with a new album to follow. For a young British Asian male to see another one make it was a good feeling, it was like finally one of our own has broken into the industry. I had been supporting Jay from way back and knew he would make it big but I didn’t expect him to be "killin it" in the USA. “BIG UP” Jay Sean whose talents include singing, rapping, song writing, beat-boxing and a producing. Expect "BIG THINGS" from Jay Sean in this coming decade.

Peace Out

Kat

ALBUMS OF THE DECADE

AMY WINEHOUSE - BACK TO BLACK

This is album is one of my favourite albums this decade every song on this album was amazing and Amy Winehouse come back from her first album FRANK bigger and better than ever.

Every song seemed to be about incidents which she had been through and the more I listened the more I felt connected with Amy and the more she shocked me. Some of the lyrics to her songs were deep and I felt that her songs were a cry for help which had been ignored. I am hoping Amy gets herself together and releases another album which will be bigger than this. My concern was that her parents and the rest of the world could see her crumbling but instead of seeing a woman asking for help we saw a musical genius who had lost control. It seemed the more negative media coverage she got the bigger this album became and it is definitely an album of the decade. No matter if you like her or hate her this album cannot be denied its status and has definitely made history.

LUPE FIASCO - FOOD AND LIQUOR

Definitely one of the freshest hip hop acts this decade, Wasalu Muhammad Jaco aka Lupe Fiasco. He was a breath of fresh air to the Hip Hop industry, he dressed well and spoke about issues that other rappers didn’t. Maybe it was his Muslim heritage that attracted me to Lupe Fiasco but after I saw him perform live I was hooked on the drug that is Lupe Fiasco. This dudes lyrics were amazing and had got me I was now a fan for life. Standing there at Somerset house, The Strand, London I watched the most amazing performer I had seen spit lyrics which other rappers would never split. I have seen big acts like jay z and n*e*r*d perform and he blew them out the water this man to me was on another level live.

He was not another rapper talking about hoes and alcohol; this was a Muslim man who had the crowd every second of his gig. I thank Reena Rai for introducing him to me and asking me to come to the concert with her, both of us were left speechless after his performance. "The cool" was another one of my favourite albums also released by Lupe and showed he had grown musically in many ways.

NEW YEARS EVE PARIS BABY!!!!

Paris was an amazing city to end the last decade and embrace the new decade. The city is amazing, we only went for the day leaving the UK on the 31/12/09 12am and leaving France 10pm on the 01/01/10. The city has tons of character and history; it seems as if random monuments had been place in every corner of the city.

FOOD

Food in the city was amazing every meal tasted exquisite (expensive but nice). The city was bursting with lovely little cafe’s with Algerian waiters and waitresses. It was a cultural melting point again highlighting Frances history as people from all its old colonies seemed to be everywhere. The bread in the city was the “best bread I ever tasted” and also the orange juice was “the best I had ever tasted” freshly squeezed. The downside was I don’t think there was enough options for vegetarians all the cafes seemed to sell steak and chicken but all vegetarians like me had was salad, omelette’s and bread (I’m not technically vegetarian I’m Muslim so can only eat halal meat), I’m sure if I looked hard enough I would have found halal restaurants, but I was happy being vegetarian.

HITSORY

The history in the city was immense full of stunning monument, the Eiffel Tower being the cities greatest achievement. It was smaller than what I thought it would be but that did not take away from its grandness I could barely keep my eyes of this beautiful tower. Also the stunning cathedrals and churches which can be found round any corner down various streets were stunning, I went inside one and it was small but was beautiful. All the monuments were spectacular and I felt as if I was in the film “The Davinci Code”, all seemed a bit surreal.

THE MUSIC

The part I am most excited about, me and my friends drove listening to the regular hip hop, r’n’b, garage and UK grime. When we got into the city we tuned into the French radio and got station ADO 97.8 “Playing the best urban music”. The station was amazing there were no adverts, there was no filler and every track was a killer. The music had blended, it was playing the best of American mainstream music but then also playing the best French music. Female artists with beautiful voices and I am already a fan of French rap. But it was nice to see French artists rapping over beats of immensely famous hip hop beats and adding their own remixes. My appreciation for the French music industry grew, I was already aware that they were into the urban industry but it was nice to hear it on French radio. It will be an industry that I will be keeping my eye on, I believe big things are to come from France.

FASHION

Finally the fashion something that my friend was introducing me to and if you are a shopper of high brands France is the place for you to be. The streets have so much fashion it’s unbearable, there are streets full of high end couture, Chanel, Roberto Cavalli, Gucci, Versace, Armani, and then brand I had never heard of but my friend, the fashion dreamer, was very familiar with.

LONDON IS THE PLACE TO BE REALLY BUT PARIS IS AN AMZING CITY!!!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR
